Daoist practice of everlasting life…

The way of everlasting life is a main focus of daoist practice. To go along this attitude the daoist practice are quite many depends on the school the adept is following. But the philosophy is the same. Everlasting life means not the bodily aspect. The name Immortal is for many people confusing and leads to wrong action if deeper understanding is missing.

Here are few examples for a better understanding about daoist exercises. The text is written by Xu Congshi, disciple of Wei Boyang.

The three jewels, the real crux

The ear,the eye, the mouth- these three jewels,

block and stop them up,do not let them gape.

The truth in man lies at the very depths,

He roams wide yet guards a proper compass within.

Sight and hearing are both crooked and winding,

They function entirely together

As the pivot and lynchpin or the self,

Their movement never exhausted.

Bank up and guard the sight within,

Do not employ the ears in hearing,

Close the mouth to chattering,

With rare words out of the teeming void.

These three are the crux of the affair-

To be with a relaxed body, resting in an empty room,

Abandon the will and return to the void,

And without thinking thus find constancy.

Let signs of difficulty promote your change,

And preserve one mind without rebelling:

In bed the spirit cradled in your arms,

Alive and alert to its care or neglect.

It identifies the three keys to the inner development of an Elexir- the ear, the eye and the mouth. They correspond to the internal vitality or body essences:

Jing > body essence

Qi > vital energy

Shen > Spirit

During one`s cultivation lowering down the sensory organs. Means just reacting less or even not (mastership) of whats going on. The meaning is not to become a stone the meaning is to stay focused and relaxed within the body whatever is coming across. If you stay in this state of mind the so called „Golden Elexir“ get created. This can be done because the mind stays calm all the time and you are beyond the point where Yin and Yang gets created. Not only in meditation you should get this point, no also during the hole daily action it is also called: „Refining the Elexir or Inner alchemy“

Nondualistic Mentality

All of the dualities of live are mutually depend and mutually necessary. Here the quote about from Laotse in:

Tao Te Ching (21-2) In the world, everyone recognize beauty as beauty, since the ugly is also there. Everyone recognize goodness as goodness, since evil is also there.

Laotse_s

When one searches only for beauty one stigmatizes the ugly. When people see beauty as pure beauty they view the ugly disparagingly. In valuing the good as purely good their judgement is based upon the idea of bad. But the universal manifests through the division of two from one, each depends on its opposite. So what ? One exist because the opposite exist ! If one would not exist the other would also not exist. Mhhhh, then it would be no separation no judgement means paradise, Shangri-La, nirvana, heaven or Wuji like the daoist are saying.

Meditation journey…

Practice, practice practice….is the important phrase in meditation. To understand deeply the meaning of it its necessary to follow the advice. Of course different people start to practice  meditation because of different aims. The aims can be following:

  • learn to relax
  • understand yourself better
  • learn to control your mind / emotions
  • as a stress resolver
  • curiosity
  • enlightenment

Just to name only few. There is almost in every culture a kind of meditation practice in very big variation of depth and or needs of the difference of humans. But I can say in around 30 years of my meditation journey  in comparison there are mainly three levels of in almost all mediation practice.

  1. the relax level
  2. self understanding level
  3. be one with God, Goddess, Buddha, Allah, Manitu, Cosmos or the one and so on

So many humans with so many different needs thats why are so many several meditation arts existing. The motivation to bring individual needs into action can be quite varied.  A friend was telling you about, you read a book or journal where mediation gets explained for what it is good for.  If you start to search for a meditation seminar to learn it or looking for schools or master to practice it then you can actually say the friend or the book / journal is/ was your first spirituell guide. The friend or the book or journal writer was opening a new way to live or act the world and or looking behind the mind limitation. Opening ones spirituell path is a like to create a good karma for yourself. Bring humans to a deeper understanding by experience not by thinking only is quite a high level good action. My first spirituell guide was Herman Hesse with the book „Siddhartha“. Once in while I take it this 30 year old book who is yellowish by age already with coffee and food spots on it smelling like historical looking at it and saying by heart thank you.

Do you remember when and or because of what  your spirituell interests or journey was starting ? Would be interesting to read or hear your comments about…..

Soon some practical tips will written by me, so stay tuned …..

Flow of life…Chi/Qi

After practicing over 30 years of Chi kung / Qi Gong I realizing more and more the „flow of life“. Everything whats not flowing belongs not to life. Everything who´s got the flow is filled with Qi. Qi is the engine of life. It is like the petrol for a machine/ car etc.. Smooth flowing. Qi is the vital energy no Qi no life.  Is Qi flowing smoothly without any blockages then life is also flowing smoothly. Means no bodily pain,  no body heaviness, no body stiffness because all bodily processes working like they should. All body metabolism are working optimally. The muscle, joins, tissues, skin, organs etc. get nourished best if the flow of Qi has no hindrance. Is Chi/Qi not flowing smoothly many symptoms can arise and this cause problems any direction. The influence can be bodily, mentally, emotionally or spiritually The wonder of life Qi why does it flow through us ? The explanation is the trinity> Heaven, Human, Earth. We are between Haven and Earth or we can also say between Yin and Yang. The constantly exchange of Yin and Yang (heaven and earth) and we are or our body are between. If you are in Ci Kung state of mind or in meditation state of mind you will realize it.

You will understand the taoist  theory by own experience not by repeating the theory from books. This is one of the most important from theory to practice or even better first practice then add theory. Like the ancient master have done it. In western countries most of the time its other way round. A lot of theory books reading, online lessons, dvd and so on is for the most Qi Gong followers more important then daily practice. They do not understand the theory after practice philosophy. On seminars they like questioning more then action same at home. Reading books to have theory or understand over practicing. This can be one reason why not so many get a deep cleansing even they practicing high level Chi Kung. Blockages in the mind is a big hindrance for the smooth flow of life.

Next article will be about Qi and emotions….
