The way it is…

or should be?

A friend to me: I don´t read you

I: The greatest happiness in life is to be associated with the spirit

Friend: what ?

I: And the greatest misery is to know to much

Friend with a great question mark over his head: but ähh if when…

I: And yet be unable to be detached

Friend is shaking his head  turning around and left the room

To seek...

My mind became loud:

Waves are moving deep sea stays unmoved

Sometimes is to say nothing the best answer…

or body benefits from movement mind from stillness

Wish a happy stillness

The way it is…

“Silence isn´t empty it´s full of answers”

But if there are answers where is the silence…is there silence only acoustic or at the mind level or both. The sense organ are such to get into the contact to the external world and because of that they will create a bodily sensation. Mhhh…there are sensations…the normal human  is dividing them in like or dislike. If you able to react differently you would be more centered and not to be the mercy of game point anymore.

3treasures

There are sensations because we are alive. But you can choose how to react to be in contact with the world.  If you are able to be at the present moment all the time with all your sense organs but staying without any  comments you will find you centered, smiling and happy. Do not follow your internal Facebook manner like or dislike be aware of you all your sensations without internal reactions and you will be happy and fully alive.

Ahhh now I understand:

Silence means no internal comments but if its necessary switch it on but only if there is need for it. Leave the mind empty and quite and use it by purpose not by old habit. Just do not feed your monkey mind.

Have nice sensations… 😉

Live with the nature >Autumn

Now it is a good time to strengthen yourself. The summer time is over and the daily action should getting less. But in our modern time it is not as easy to follow the daoist wisdom. We have to follow the rhythm of the modern society for everything we got a timetable. Around our business or job we got only a little influence on our daily flow. The question is what we can do and how?, to follow the nature rhythm of the seasons.

First of all we have to understand the action of each season. By daoist philosophy the human body is the microcosmos and outside is the macrocosmos. We are always in exchange and the macrocosmos is like an energy resource for us if we following its nature. If we not following it means we using our potential and our Qi (vital energy) and get soon exhausted. The meaning of exhausted here is our immune system getting weak, we catch easily colds or other illnesses, we are not on our peak  performance what ever we do. Fighting the flow of the nature is one of the Qi stealer beside wrong diet. To follow the nature you must understand the nature first.

Now is autumn time and what is the action of it. If understand it its is easy to follow. First a list what you can see by yourself without any education.

Obvious:

  • crop
  • sap is retire (falling leaves)
  • getting colder and rainy
  • windy
  • shorter brightness

The action for you:

  • wearing correct clothes
  • earlier to bed (around 1h)
  • still standing up early
  • drinking from now on more warm drinks
  • go for a autumn walk

What you can´t see but what the sensitive ancient daoist master figure out by their meditation and energy work (Qi Gong).

Not obvious:

  • time of metal phase, structure/ hardness (Five phases cycle)
  • main time  of lung / large intestine (most energy)
  • Emotion> sorrow (autumn blues)

The action for you:

  • peaceful thoughts (against the hardness)
  • keep soul and mind together (breath/ lung stays calm)
  • don´t follow your desires to keep the lung pure
  • Qi Gong for Lung and Large Intestine

The one who do not follow the autumn laws will harm the lung system. He will get problems in digestion and will get diarrhea. He will not have enough power to keep the vital energy together in winter time.

Yin Yang – reading from classics

You can read a lot about explanation of Yin Yang. Saying Yin is this and Yang is that. Most of the time the explanation is missing why it is like this. Actually the theory is to understand the world or universe or live and its action. If you start to describe something as good you should understand there exist always a opposite. You can describe the night as Yin because you know there is its opposite the day i.e. Yang for example. Same for other things like cold / hot, men / women and so on. Important is to understand that to name something in Yin or Yang the opposite is already included. The Taiji symbol (most people calling it wrongly Yin Yang sign) is showing this understanding very clear. The small spots with its counterpart color within the Yin Yang are showing this deep understanding. If you name something its like one side of a coin it includes the other side of the coin. No good without bad, no happiness without sadness and so on. The Taiji symbol is also showing the dynamic of nature which of course is including our life. Everything is changing to its opposite after it reaches is maximum. Night changes to day life changes to dead one season is changing to the next one are examples of the everlasting processes of the hole universe including our life.

Here some parts of classical texts:

‘When all people in the world know beautiful as beauty, there

appears ugliness; when they know goodness as good, there

appears evil. Therefore by opposing each other existence and

non existence come into being. Difficult and easy form

themselves, long and short are distinct high and low contrast,

sound and voice harmonize front and back emerge.’

Laozi

Out of  Huang Di Nei Jing, the classics of the yellow Emporer:

Huang Di said ‘I hear heaven is yang and earth is yin. The

moon is yin. How are these joined in man (Ling Shu)?’ and

physiology ‘The clear yang forms the skies; the turbid yin the

earth. The earthly energies rise above to form clouds; the

energy of the skies descends as rain. Therefore yang comes from

the upper openings; while turbid yin comes out from the lower

openings. The clear yang develops into the texture of the skin

and the turbid yin runs back into the five Zang (Suwen).

Health preservation and treatment is aimed at establishing

harmony with the universe.

Daoist practice of everlasting life…

The way of everlasting life is a main focus of daoist practice. To go along this attitude the daoist practice are quite many depends on the school the adept is following. But the philosophy is the same. Everlasting life means not the bodily aspect. The name Immortal is for many people confusing and leads to wrong action if deeper understanding is missing.

Here are few examples for a better understanding about daoist exercises. The text is written by Xu Congshi, disciple of Wei Boyang.

The three jewels, the real crux

The ear,the eye, the mouth- these three jewels,

block and stop them up,do not let them gape.

The truth in man lies at the very depths,

He roams wide yet guards a proper compass within.

Sight and hearing are both crooked and winding,

They function entirely together

As the pivot and lynchpin or the self,

Their movement never exhausted.

Bank up and guard the sight within,

Do not employ the ears in hearing,

Close the mouth to chattering,

With rare words out of the teeming void.

These three are the crux of the affair-

To be with a relaxed body, resting in an empty room,

Abandon the will and return to the void,

And without thinking thus find constancy.

Let signs of difficulty promote your change,

And preserve one mind without rebelling:

In bed the spirit cradled in your arms,

Alive and alert to its care or neglect.

It identifies the three keys to the inner development of an Elexir- the ear, the eye and the mouth. They correspond to the internal vitality or body essences:

Jing > body essence

Qi > vital energy

Shen > Spirit

During one`s cultivation lowering down the sensory organs. Means just reacting less or even not (mastership) of whats going on. The meaning is not to become a stone the meaning is to stay focused and relaxed within the body whatever is coming across. If you stay in this state of mind the so called “Golden Elexir” get created. This can be done because the mind stays calm all the time and you are beyond the point where Yin and Yang gets created. Not only in meditation you should get this point, no also during the hole daily action it is also called: “Refining the Elexir or Inner alchemy”

Yang Shen Fa- Daoist Health Preservation- promoting a long and healthy live

Yang Shen Fa the art of enabling self cultivation by taking our health into our own hands.Yang Sheng Fa promotes methods of self-healing, health cultivation, and encourages a positive state of mind, ultimately leading to the preservation of one’s health, well-being, and from a practitioner’s perspective, greater focus and treatment outcomes.

In my clinic for Classical Chinese Medicine a growing number of  patients asking for live and health guidance. This is actually very good because by guidance of daily live like it is named  at Yang Sheng Fa the speed up of to get healthy is really visible. After the patients get back their health and they keep on going on the Yang Sheng Fa principles they can keep their health and enjoy their live.

Here some quotes from Chinese classics:

Mind Cultivation

“Temperance in the emotions can prolong life”

Gong Tingxian, Ming Dynasty (Longevity and Life Preservation)

“It is man himself, not Heaven, who governs his life,

and he who abuses himself dies young, while he who takes

good care of himself enjoys a long life”.

Gao Lian, Ming dynasty

Daoyin Exercise

“Aging does not occur with bodily movement”

Lu Shi Chun Qiu (Lu’s Spring and Autumn Annals)

Nondualistic Mentality

All of the dualities of live are mutually depend and mutually necessary. Here the quote about from Laotse in:

Tao Te Ching (21-2) In the world, everyone recognize beauty as beauty, since the ugly is also there. Everyone recognize goodness as goodness, since evil is also there.

Laotse_s

When one searches only for beauty one stigmatizes the ugly. When people see beauty as pure beauty they view the ugly disparagingly. In valuing the good as purely good their judgement is based upon the idea of bad. But the universal manifests through the division of two from one, each depends on its opposite. So what ? One exist because the opposite exist ! If one would not exist the other would also not exist. Mhhhh, then it would be no separation no judgement means paradise, Shangri-La, nirvana, heaven or Wuji like the daoist are saying.

External enemies…

In Chinese medicine is a saying:

If your internal defense (Qi/vital energy )is strong and flowing no external enemy can strike you.

It sounds quite martial but its only a kind of view. And the so called not educated people in ancient China could understand its terminology easily.

External enemies:

  • Cold
  • Heat
  • Wind
  • Dryness
  • Dampness

These nature aspects of course not by it self enemies only if they can enter into your body. Then they can create so called blockages or in other words health problems. To prevent this it is necessary to keep our guard strong so these enemies can not enter the body. Several ways exist to keep the guard (defense Qi) strong. Here are some examples  from the classical wisdom of ancient china.

  • Live with nature rhythm
  • Exercises: Qi Gong / Chi Kung / Taijiquan
  • Food: 5 Element diet
  • Emotions: Keep them calm and balanced

crane tusche_s

Crane is symbolizing long life and immortality in Chinese culture.

Each of the listed ones has its own benefit but all the together they are a quite strong army against the so called external enemies. Each individual of them are to strengthen our defense Qi i.e. the guard. All together they build a strong army. This is the secret of a healthy life but the knowledge by itself not very helpful better start to bring it into your daily action. If you don´t you are the owner of death knowledge….

Spirituell work….

When you start to meditate and you lower your eyelids no separation of spirit and intension is needed. The separation starts only when movement and stillness begin to follow each other. Meaning is the stillness (non action) is coming from the spirit and the intension works through action. The spirit can accomplish everything in its non action. The spirit is the ruler of action but does not move in its original. Intension by the other hand moves and is directing the spirit. For true intuition to emerge spirit and right intention must work together. To reach the goal you must extinguish all thoughts.

Practice mindfulness every day until it is becoming like to brush one´s teeth. Mind creates reality you chosen to see things good or bad positive or negative. Meditation is a good tool to be aware of our mindset all day long.

Breath in and out ….thats it and don´t forget to smile
